Migration
Charlottetown is a popular destination for immigrants to come and live. There are many public-sector jobs looking for skilled immigrants to work for them. In 2001- 2006 Charlottetown received 510 new Canadian immigrants and in the chart below shows the recent immigrants and their birth places from a Canadian Census in 2006. In the future, I suspect that a large amount of their population will come from migration. Prince Edward Island has a program called "Provincial Nomination Program," which encourages and selects immigrants to come to their province and to get them to Canada quicker. They select people who are investors, entrepreneurs, skilled workers and people with connections to the island. This helps increase the population of Charlottetown but there might possibly be problems with that too. With the population on the rise in the future, the small province of Prince Edward Island and Charlottetown will quickly be more populated which means the little green city will be more urbanized. More houses means less trees, parks, and nature. There will have to be more job offers and people who lived there all their life might be upset if an immigrant got a job that they wanted. Having more people to Charlottetown is better for the economy and growth, but it does have its downsides.
According to the 2006 Canadian Census, Charlottetown is populated with 2.2% (1,290) of immigrants and the ethnic composition of them are South Asian 0.2% (150), Chinese 0.3% (145), African 0.7% (420) and Latin American 0.3% (165).

Below is an Immigration Stats Chart for the total in Canada. The three largest immigrant groups from descending order are from Asia and the Middle East with 2,525,160 people, Europe with 2,278,345 and lastly, Eastern Asia with 874,370 people. These larger groups will impact Charlottetown because it means that most amount of immigrants will come from those groups and they are foreign countries that speak a different language. They will have to learn English if they want to survive in the city and there will also need to be more job offers and variety of jobs that appeal to their skills. Immigration is important to Canada because it will help the country grow since Canada has a very small population compared to other countries even though it is the second largest country in the world. It will also improve our economy and cultural ranges. There are immigration challenges for Canada though and that will be helping them learn English or French (if they don't know already) depending on where they choose to live, creating more jobs that fits their needs and skills, and creating more space and homes for them. Being a new immigrant is hard enough on them already so Canada needs to be welcoming and comfortable for them so that they stay.
