Population
The population in Charlottetown taken from a 2011 census is 64,487 people. It has increased by 5,162 people since 2006, which is an 8.7% change. The age make up of Charlottetown is the biggest in the 45-49 age group and the smallest in the 80-85 and 85+. There are more females than males and the total percentage number for females is 52.61% while the males make up 47.40%. As you can see below on the population pyramid it says that there are 33,925 females and 30,560 males.
The three distinct age brackets shown in the pyramid are the baby brackets (0-14), the bearing brackets (15-64), and the old brackets (65+). In the baby brackets, 16.31% of people are in it, 68.81% of people are in the bearing brackets, and 14.89% are in the old brackets. The largest age bracket are the bearing brackets. The dependency load are the people who are not working so they are the people who are under 14 and over 65. The number of people in Charlottetown's dependency load is 20,125 and that equals to 31.21%, which is less than 50%. of the population. That means that Charlottetown has a low dependency load. The areas of society and community who would be impacted by this in a positive and negative way would be the bearing brackets. Currently, there's enough people to take care of the dependent people because of their low rate, but that could also be negative in that there would be less jobs in that field. In the future when the bearing brackets become the dependency load there will not be as much people to take care of them because the dependency load before was low. So there are both negative and positive sides to it. The shape of Charlottetown's population pyramid is unstable because there aren't enough people in the baby bracket compared to the bearing bracket. The largest group of people or "bulge" is the 45-49 people and they are in the bearing bracket group. The next largest group of people are the 50-54 people and they're also in the bearing bracket. In the future, I predict that the highest age bracket will still be in the bearing bracket as it is the highest ranging group and it's usually the group with the most amount in Charlottetown. The dependency load will be either the old bracket or the baby bracket, but I'm guessing the baby bracket with the least dependency rate. The population in the city is slowly raising, but I predict that with the big amount of population growth in Canada, more and more people will move to Charlottetown thus making the population pyramid bigger and possibly in the bearing bracket.
